FOR LOST SOULS: Sikh-Canadian Bikers Remember And Honour Aboriginal Children With A Ride To Kamloops
- June 27, 2021
With the lifting of travel restrictions in BC, Sikh Motorcycle Club members organized the ‘Lost Souls Memorial Ride” to remember and honour the aboriginal children who suffered abuse and death at the hands of Canadian government backed Catholic Church run Residential Schools. Sikh bikers said the ride educated each of them more about the Residential Schools and gave the first hand information straight from Indigenous Voices. To commemorate National Indigenous History Month, and in light of the recent heartbreaking revelations in Kamloops, each individual member donated on the spot to lend financial help as a gesture of reconciliation. 7000 masks in collaboration with United Sikhs were handed as well to decrease the community spread of COVID-19. The ride was very successful in raising awareness as more than 60 members participated with almost 50 bikes on the road. “We would like to thank the entire Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Nation, Chief Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir and Council Justin Cale Gottfriedson for welcoming us with a smudging ceremony,” the Sikh Motorcycle Club said.
