The deceased were identified as Harpreet Singh, 24, Jaspinder Singh, 21, Karanpal Singh, 22, Mohit Chouhan, 23 and Pawan Kumar, 23.
The Ontario Provincial Police say the collision involving a tractor trailer and passenger van also sent two passengers to hospital with serious injuries, reported Canadian Press.
The OPP say the crash happened around 3:45 a.m. in Quinte West, Ont., between Belleville and Trenton.
All five were students from India, according to an OPP update issued on Sunday, March 13. They were studying in Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area.
