SURREY – It's a bird, it's a plane – no! It's "Desi" Superman from Surrey.
To celebrate his big day (his birthday is Thursday, June 9), Sean Bindra brought his well-worn mantra that: "We can all be Super Heroes!", to life and instead of receiving gifts this year he gifted members of the Surrey community with love, happiness, and presents.
He dressed up in a complete Superman costume and visited various places in Surrey-Delta to do his part in giving back.
He started his morning 8:00am – 9:00am at the Scott Road Skytrain Station where he wished transit commuters a wonderful day early in the morning, so that they carry forth that positivity and feel that extra bit of love and happiness.
9:30am – 10:45am – Richardson Elementary (11339 83 Ave, Delta, BC)
He visited and surprised the kids in grades Kindergarten to Grade 3 (total of 11 classes and more than 300 kids). He visited each class dressed as Superman and interacted with the kids and making them smile, and he also brought each class gifts/presents (board games, sandbox toys, sports equipment, game balls, etc.).
11:30am – 1:00pm – Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre (11760 88 Ave, Delta, BC V4C 3C5)
He visited and surprised the numerous Senior citizens at the Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre. It is "Seniors Week" at this organization so Bindra made their week even more wonderful. Dressed as Superman, he interacted with the Seniors and making them smile, helping out with their lunch service by offering food, and attempted to dance along with a few Seniors and spread even more love and happiness.
BC Children's Hospital, & the Canadian Mental Health Association ($1,000 total donation – $500 each)
After visiting the school Kids and the Seniors, he visited the BC Children's Hospital and making a donation of $500. This donation will go towards supporting the on-going care for the children in medical need in our community
Bindra made all of the above mentioned contribution and donations from his own personal money, which equates to more than $1,600.
"The tangible value of this donation in our community does not compare to the intangible value of happiness that our community will carry forward for the rest of their lives. In other words, money comes and goes but creating positive memories like this lasts a lifetime, and this is where the true value lies," Bindra told DESIBUZZbc.
"I am very passionate about our community and giving back. My parents have lived a life in which they have been extremely generous in giving love and support to their peers. They have lead by example and have taught me the importance of helping others. Therefore, I wish to do my part in giving back and helping others as well. For me personally, there is no greater feeling than the happiness you get from making others smile. I have always tried my best to put a smile on the faces of those around me and I wish to continue doing this for the rest of my life. Through their love, support, and always being good role models to me, my parents are my Super Heroes."
