CHANDIGARH – While people are dying in droves in India from COVID-19 with the virus devastating India, Punjabi actor-singer Gippy Grewal, whose hunger to shoot more films is matched by his ego and irresponsibility, was arrested making yet another Punjabi film that no one can see for a long while for disobeying Punjab’s new pandemic rules.

Grewal and some of his crew members were arrested for allegedly flouting COVID-19 restrictions by shooting for a film Shava Ni Girdhari Lal at Banur in Punjab's Patiala district, police said on Saturday.

They were takes to the police station, booked and later released on bail, police said.

A police official said over 100 people had gathered at the shooting site in a village in Banur, even as a weekend lockdown was in force in Punjab. Police arrested Grewal and some crew members from the spot, the official said.

A case under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC, relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act has been registered at Banur police station.

Grewal’s bodyguard also got into a tiff with journalist covering his arrest. They asked for his immediate arrest for hitting a journalist and knocking him down. Grewal later took to social media to make the media look like bad guys and defended his bodyguard, which many people called shameful conduct by the star who they say is hell bent on making useless films rather than following COVID-19 rules.

Last week, actor Jimmy Shergill and some crew members of a film production team were also booked for allegedly defying COVID-19 restrictions while shooting for a web series Your Honor 2 in Ludhiana.

While shooting, Jimmy, along with all the crew members of the show, didn’t follow the Covid-19 rules and regulations. In fact, the shooting went on even after 8 pm, two hours after curfew was enforced.

When the police were notified about the same, they reached the spot and found more than 100 people at the location of the shoot. A case was later filed against Jimmy and all the crew members.
