“Today, as we reflect on this horrific event and senseless loss of lives, it leaves us to believe that the Government of Canada is least interested in finding out the perpetrators of Air India Flight 182,” said Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Canada) spokesman Sukhminder Singh Hansra. “We won`t let the Government of Canada close the Air India Flight 182 bombing investigation until they determine who planned, who funded and who executed the bombing.

TORONTO – A Canadian Sikh group is calling for a thorough inquiry into the Air India bombings to get to the bottom of who was actually involved and who funded it.

Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, Canada (SADA)said it stands in solidarity with the families of Victims of Air Indian Flight 182 bombing.

As the bombings mark 35 years, they say the Canadian investigation has failed to bring perpetrators to justice.

“The Government of Canada continues to ignore repeated calls from Canadian Sikh organizations to put in place a Royal commission to get to the bottom of this crime,” said Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Canada) spokesman Sukhminder Singh Hansra.

He said SADA Canada has been holding memorial vigil since 2017 at the Air India Memorial but wasn’t able to do so due to COVID19.

“But as we observe the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, we must not lose sight of the crime that the perpetrators are still on the loose. The
RCMP investigation is still open, even after a very expensive and lengthy inquiry with limited scope by Justice John Major, which was not very thorough,” he said

SADA said in their book Soft Target book, two renowned Canadian journalists Zuhair Kashmeri from Globe and Mail and Brian McAndrew from Toronto Star revealed pertinent information on the case. It clearly stated that the crime was conspired by the Indian Government, yet the Canadian investigation agencies RCMP and CSIS played cat and mouse with the evidence.

SADA said they once again repeat their call for a thorough inquiry by a Judge appointed with absolute power to bring justice. It is not Canadian way to ignore the crime and apologize after 100 years. Even after 35 years, not knowing all the facts, the news stories continue making mockery of the tragedy.

“Today, as we reflect on this horrific event and senseless loss of lives, it leaves us to believe that the Government of Canada is least interested in finding out the perpetrators of Air India Flight 182,” said Hansra. “We won`t let the Government of Canada close the Air India Flight 182 bombing investigation until they determine who planned, who funded and who executed the bombing."
