BC COVID-19 UPDATE: Deaths Continue at High Pace As 12 More People Die From the Virus Friday

COVID-19 related deaths continue to remain high as 12 more people died from the virus on Friday and there were over 500 cases. There are 599 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 96 are in intensive care.

VICTORIA – COVID-19 related deaths continue to remain high as 12 more people died from the virus on Friday and there were over 500 cases.
As of Friday, Feb. 25, 90.6% (4,514,727) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.1% (4,289,963) have received their second dose.
In addition, 93.2% (4,321,476) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 90.7% (4,203,057) received their second dose and 55.3% (2,562,401) have received a third dose.
Also, 93.6% (4,047,393) of eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 91.1% (3,940,806) received their second dose and 57.4% (2,481,128) have received a third dose.
B.C. is reporting 583 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 347,376 cases in the province.
The numbers of new and total cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh.
The new cases include:
* Fraser Health: 138
* Vancouver Coastal Health: 91
* Interior Health: 183
* Northern Health: 75
* Island Health: 96
* People who reside outside of Canada: zero
There are 599 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 96 are in intensive care.
In the past 24 hours, 12 new deaths have been reported for an overall total of 2,851.
Note: One reported death has been removed from the total due to a data correction.
The new deaths include:
* Fraser Health: 10
* Northern Health: one
* Island Health: one
There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Cascade Gardens Seniors Community (Fraser Health). The outbreaks at Sunridge Place, Sluggett House and The Heights at Mt. View (Island Health) have been declared over, for a total of 27 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:

* Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre, Menno Home, Cascade Gardens Seniors Community (Fraser Health)
* Glenmore Lodge, Trinity Care Centre, Ponderosa, Castleview Care Centre, Overlander Residential Care, Three Links Manor, Hillside Village, Polson Long Term Care, Mission Creek Landing (Interior Health)
* Wexford Creek, Sidney Care Home, Eden Gardens, Kiwanis Village Lodge, Salvation Army Sunset Lodge, Sunset Lodge, Amica on the Gorge, Selkirk Seniors Village, Nanaimo Seniors Village, Glacier View Lodge, Rest Haven Lodge and Sidney All Care (Island Health)
* acute care:
* Burnaby Hospital and Langley Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health)
* assisted or independent living:

From Feb. 17-23, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 20.7% of cases and from Feb. 10-23 they accounted for 33.7% of hospitalizations.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 11,310,191 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines.
