VANCOUVER – While COVID-19 cases are going through the roof across Canada, the government has loosened restrictions to allow International students back into Canada. Many Caandians are calling this a bad move as most students are coming from COVID-19 stricken countries like India.

"There is no rhyme or reason to bring back students especially since most collegs and universities are holding classes online," said one angry Surrey resident who spoke to DESIBUZZCanada. "This is absolutely unnecessary given that we are now hit with a second wave and cases across Canada are going up and in BC today for the first time we had over 200 cases."

Allowing foreign students back into the country for schooling is the latest step in the federal government loosening of some border restrictions.

Students will only be allowed into Canada if they follow the quarantine process, and if the school they are attending has a provincially approved COVID-19 plan, reported News 1130.

The government says students — coming from the U.S. or any other country — must have a COVID-19 readiness plan before travelling to Canada.

This follows changes that took place earlier this month which allowed family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to come to Canada, if they followed a plan as well.

The Canada-U.S. land border remains closed to all non-essential traffic amid ongoing COVID-19 concerns south of the border.

On Monday, the federal government announced the border closure — which was set to expire on Wednesday — was being extended by at least another month until Nov. 21.
