Olympian and Commonwealth Games wrestling Gold Medal champion Arjan Singh Bhullar recently made sports history by becoming the first Sikh-Indo-Canadian to be signed by the world renowned big fight game Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is now set to make his UFC debut in Canada this September in Edmonton at UFC 216, it was announced Wednesday. He told DESIBUZZCanada founder R. Paul Dhillon he is super excited about his entry into UFC. Bhullar said he is ready to make his name in the upper echelons of the fight game. Dhillon made a film on Bhullar called Arjan Bhullar: The Heart Of A Champion a few years back which was shown nationally on OMNI Television and that film is the original SULTAN film story – which Salman Khan and the makers of Sultan copied in their hit film. Bhullar’s first fight in the UFC has been confirmed as he will be fighting Luis "KLB" Henrique on September 9 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

RICHMOND – Olympian and 2010 Commonwealth Games wrestling Gold Medal champion Arjan Singh Bhullar recently made sports history by becoming the first Sikh-Indo-Canadian to be signed by the world renowned big fight game Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
On Wednesday, UFC made it official that Bhullar will put his undefeated record on the line against Luis “KLB” Henrique (10-3, 1 NC; 2-2 UFC) at UFC 216 on Sept. 9 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Bhullar, the current Battlefield Fight League heavyweight champion, has amassed a perfect 6-0 record since turning pro in late 2014 following his successful international wrestling career and a lone amateur bout.
Bhullar, who recently won his 6th straight Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight and retained his heavyweight belt against a tough American opponent Joe Yager, signed with UFC this week and was immediately invited to their Vegas headquarters for meet and greet and take part in their annual Athletes Retreat conference and showcase.
Richmond native Bhullar, who becomes the first ever South Asian fighter to be signed to UFC, has been busy on Facebook since making the breaking the news that he has signed on the dotted line with the biggest mixed martial arts fight game in the world.
“I will proudly represent the Maple Leaf and be the ambassador for over 1.7 billion South Asians,” he stated on his Facebook page. “I fully appreciate the significance of this moment, and understand the seriousness of the task at hand. We will prepare accordingly.”
Bhullar has been posting all weekend about his adventure to the UFC’s headquarters in Las Vegas which is playing host of some of the biggest sports stars including Lakers’ great Kobe Bryant and Hollywood showbiz power players like super agent Ari Emanuel, who heads the top Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WMC).
Emanuel is also the current head of the UFC, which his company acquired as part of their dominance of the sports talent game.
Bhullar has dominated the local mixed martial arts heavyweight scene, compiling a perfect record of six wins and zero losses during his time with Canadian promoters. He most recently defeated Joe Yager in Coquitlam on April 29 at a Battlefield Fight League event.
He was a member of the Canadian senior national team for five consecutive years, highlighted by a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in India in 2010.
He also was a member of the Canadian Olympic team for the London 2012 Summer Games, and finished 13th in the men’s freestyle 120 kg division.
Bhullar was the first Canadian of South Asian descent to qualify for freestyle wrestling in the Olympic Games, and he was named Canadian Wrestler of the Year in 2009.
During his university wrestling career at Simon Fraser University, Bhullar won two NAIA national championships and one CIS title. He‘s the only wrestler to win a national title in both conferences in the same year.
