SURREY – Another young Indo-Canadian man is dead after another gangland shooting in Surrey this week.
Twenty-two-year-old Pardeep Singh of Surrey has been identified as the victim of the Tuesday evening killing, which occurred in Singh's driveway.
A woman at the home where Singh's body was found identified herself as the victim's aunt said he was a "good kid".
Police said Singh was known to them and was associated with gangs. Investigators are working to determine motive, but believe that Singh’s murder was targeted.
Surrey RCMP descended on a home in the Cloverdale area in the 6300 block of 166 Street around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday night following reports of shots fired. Officers arrived to find the shooting victim inside a vehicle in the driveway of his home.
A light-coloured minivan was seen driving east on 64th Avenue after the shooting. The street was blocked off for hours, with investigators putting down multiple evidence markers around a vehicle in the driveway.
When police arrived, they located a male victim in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home who had suffered gunshot wounds. Police said the male victim had succumbed to his injuries at scene, and his death was deemed a homicide.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was contacted and is currently conducting the investigation. IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroner’s Service to gather evidence.
Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT says, “Investigators are looking for a suspect vehicle described as a light coloured minivan that fled the area after the shooting occurred.”
The incident comes as a concern to the community. Neighbour Karnail Gill heard shots and saw the victim.
"[It’s] very sad because we are all good people and we don't like to see these things," Gill told CTV Morning Live. "What happened it makes me really scared."
This is the 33rd shooting of the year in Surrey.
