Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and City councilmen observed the Komagata Maru Remembrance Day which was declared by the Province to be May 23rd with a special presentation. Sim and City of Vancouver Councillors were joined by Vice President and Spokesperson Descendants of the Komagata Maru Society Raj Singh Toor, who was presented with an official Komagata Maru Remembrance Day Proclamation original copy on Thursday. “I would like to like thank the Mayor and Councillors City of Vancouver for proclaiming May 23, 2024 as “Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance,” Toor told DESIBUZZCanada. “The City of Vancouver has done a great tribute to those passengers who suffered a lot during the tragedy. We can’t undo the past but we can move forward and leave a legacy for the future generations.”

The City of Vancouver declared and Proclaimed the May 23, 2024 , as a “ Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance” in the City of Vancouver on Toor’s request.
