New Angus Reid Poll Says US Has Rebounded While China Remains Historically Low!

Canadian-Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s “killer” India has dropped big time on Canada’s favourability of Nations, says Poll. New data from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute finds Canadians offering strongly negative assessments of two of the countries accused of meddling in Canadian elections – China and India. Previously, a positive appraisal of India has declined by 11-points in Canada since March 2023; a minority of one-third (33%) who say they view the country favourably are outnumbered by the majority (54%) who do not. This has occurred following Sikh independence advocate and Surrey Gurdwara President Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder at the hands of Indian government agencies in June 2023 and ongoing crime spree of criminals sent to Canada through the illegal-immigration racket and ill-advised student program by Indian government associated jailed crime lords like Lawrence Bishnoi.

TORONTO – Canadian-Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s “killer” India has dropped big time on Canada’s favourability of Nations, says Poll.

China is also getting negative blowback with four-in-five (79%) Canadians say they have an unfavourable view of the powerhouse Asian nation as favourability towards that country remains at a historic low.

Angus Reid says there is much to discuss on the agenda as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joins his international counterparts at the G7 summit in Italy, including wars in Gaza and Ukraine. But the Canadian contingent says it hopes to find time for a multilateral discussion of foreign interference, an issue which has continued to be a source of domestic controversy.

A recent report by the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) has brought renewed attention to foreign election interference in Canada with un-named Canadian MPs willingly helping bad foreign actors like India, supplying them with intelligence and helping them with foreign interference, pointing fingers also at China.

Canadians offer their most positive assessments of two G7 allies – the United Kingdom and France. Both are viewed favourably by at least seven-in-ten Canadians. These are more positive views than Canadians have of their two partners in the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, the replacement trade agreement for NAFTA.

Three-in-five (60%) offer favourable evaluations of Mexico; a majority (55%) of the U.S. The latter represents a rebound in Canadian opinion. In 2021, two-in-five (41%) Canadians said they viewed the U.S. favourably as the country transitioned from the adversarial administration of Donald Trump to the more collaborative Joe Biden.

More Key Findings:

Canadians’ views diverge most across demographics on Israel and the U.S. In both cases, men older than 54 are the most likely to view each country positively.

Three-quarters of Americans (77%) say they have a positive view of Canada, compared to the 55 per cent of Canadians who say the same about the U.S.

American and Canadian views of the countries assessed differ the most on Israel (U.S.: 41% favourable, Canada: 29%), Mexico (U.S.: 49%, Canada: 60%), and India (U.S.: 43%, Canada: 33%).
